SequentialExecutor vs LocalExecutor vs CeleryExecutor

Mediumairflow-11
executorcelerylocalexecutor

Question

Compare SequentialExecutor, LocalExecutor, and CeleryExecutor.

Solution

SequentialExecutor

Runs tasks one at a time. Fine for learning or tiny local setups. Not for real production.

LocalExecutor

Runs multiple tasks concurrently on the same machine. Good for small/medium single-node deployments.

CeleryExecutor

Distributes tasks across multiple workers:

Scheduler → Celery → W1 / W2 / W3

Good for larger workloads and horizontal scaling.

Interview tip: Start Local for single host; move to Celery/K8s when you need distributed workers.
