Research checklist (do before interview)
- What the company sells / who the customers are
- Where data likely matters (marketplace, fintech, logistics, ads, SaaS)
- Recent news, blog, engineering posts
- Role responsibilities from the JD
Answer formula
1. Company mission / product you respect (specific) 2. Data problem that intrigues you (scale, freshness, quality, modeling) 3. Match to your experience/projects 4. How you'll contribute in first 6–12 months
Example outline
> Your product depends on trustworthy marketplace metrics. I've built order and event pipelines in projects and care about freshness + quality tests. The JD's focus on warehouse modeling and Airflow matches what I've practiced. I want to grow by owning pipelines that directly affect seller and buyer decisions.
Fresher tip
If you lack "company name drop," be honest: "I'm early-career; I'm drawn to teams that ship reliable data products and mentor juniors. Your DE blog on incremental models stood out because…"
Interview tip: Never trash other companies. Stay specific to *this* team.
