Some tables on this vendor's schema do hard-delete. Guess we're stuck doing key-set diffs for those.
Need near-real-time change capture from a vendor's MySQL database, but they won't grant binlog replication access for security reasons. Only read access to tables through a reporting replica.
What's the least-bad way to approximate CDC here?

Timestamp-based polling on an updated_at column is the fallback. Not true CDC, but workable if every table reliably maintains that column and hard deletes are rare or tombstoned.
