Existing pipelines are in Azure Data Factory. Team is evaluating whether migrating to Synapse pipelines buys anything concrete, or if it's mostly the same engine with different branding at this point.

Synapse pipelines are functionally very close to ADF, same underlying service. The real differentiator is Synapse's unified workspace, notebooks, SQL pools, and pipelines together, which only matters if you're actually consolidating tooling, not for pipeline logic itself.
Careful with NULL in join keys, they'll drop rows in an inner join.
Note that merge on Delta still needs unique keys defined correctly.
If you're not adopting the rest of the Synapse workspace, like dedicated SQL pools or Spark notebooks in the same UI, migrating pipelines alone is mostly churn for little gain.
We're not adopting the rest of Synapse. Staying on ADF.
