A multinational company, often called an MNC, is a large company with offices in many countries. Many of them hire a lot of freshers each year and train them after joining. The process is more structured than at a small company, which is good news: you can learn the pattern and practise for it.
Campus drive, career page or referral.
Aptitude, coding or SQL, and sometimes an English test.
Basics, projects and problem solving.
Fit, communication and your plans.
Document checks, then an offer letter.
What an MNC looks for in a fresher
They know you are new. They hire freshers for potential: you understand the basics, you can learn quickly, you can work in a team, and you communicate clearly. A few clear skills and one good project do more than a long list of tools.
How freshers usually enter
- Campus drives. The most common route. The company visits or runs an online drive for your college.
- Career pages. Many companies post fresher roles and open drives on their own site. This is the most reliable source for dates and rules.
- Referrals. An employee submits your profile. See LinkedIn and referrals.
- Hiring events and pool drives. Companies sometimes hire from many colleges at once.
Check the exact route on the company's own page. Rules, such as eligible years and marks, change from year to year.
The rounds and how to prepare
| Round | What it checks | Prepare by |
|---|
| --- | --- | --- |
|---|
| Online assessment | Aptitude, reasoning, basic coding or SQL, sometimes English | Timed daily practice. See the online assessment guide |
|---|
| Technical interview | Programming basics, SQL, your project and your branch subjects | Solve problems aloud, and prepare your project story |
|---|
| HR or managerial interview | Communication, teamwork, goals and fit | See the HR round guide |
|---|
If the role is in data, the technical interview often includes SQL and a simple Python or pandas question. Practise on SQL practice and Python practice.
How to stand out when many people apply
- A clear one-page resume with a project near the top. See the fresher resume guide.
- A tidy GitHub page with a README for each project.
- Clear spoken answers. Practise explaining a problem in simple words. Many strong students lose marks because they cannot explain what they did.
- One relevant skill in depth. For example, strong SQL for a data role.
Questions to ask before you accept an offer
Read the offer letter for the role, location, pay structure and joining date. Ask your recruiter or placement cell about the training period, whether there is a service agreement, and how the project and location are decided. A good company answers these openly. If you are unsure, ask a senior who works there.
What if you are not selected
Many students apply to the same company more than once, in later years or for other roles. Note what you were asked, fix the weak areas, and try again. Rejection from one company says little about your future. Companies often have a waiting period before you can reapply, so check the rule on their page.
Where to start today
Pick one large company you like, open its career page, and read the fresher roles. Write down the skills it asks for, and check how many you can already show.
